Large Family? Christmas?

Photobucket

Several years ago, we decided to reduce the Christmas stress. Our families aren't as big as some, yet the idea of buying for siblings, their families and our parents was daunting...and expensive!

Instead of trying to buy 10-$10 gifts, we decided to draw names. Not only did we allow ourselves to save money (the limit is definitely not $100), but it gave us a chance to slow down and think about the person we're buying for. Instead of buying small tokens, we take the time to really select something our family member would like.

It's not about volume, it's about the thought and effort! So every year at Thanksgiving, we draw names. At first we excluded the kids, but now I'm happy to include them in the process. It gives the children a chance to really think of a gift for their family.

What about your family? Are you stuck in the gift race, too? Or have you been able to slow down and enjoy the process?

Here's a little plug for an online service that I have absolutely nothing to do with, but I think is wonderful. You invite everyone to register, set the parameters (for instance, I set it up so a person doesn't draw another person within their immediate family (spouse, kids), and then set a date for the draw. It's all secret, easy and best of all, FREE!

Hi Dawn, I'm going to check out that elfster idea. We do the same sort of idea at Christmas time. My in-laws make dinner for us and we bring a new family board game to them which we all play but we leave it there for when they have company.
Remember the game you brought to my cookie exchange? That's the one I bought them last year. ;)

hello from another colorado blogger on BATW...both sides of our families draw names, but only my family has now resorted to even fewer gifts and we draw for famlies and not individuals...i'm trying to get in in-law side to do that as well...but they are the drag-your-feet-with-change type (especially when it is suggested byt the daughter in-law and not a "blood" relation)
i saw that you homeschool and the link to montessori...are you trying to teach monetsorri at home?
i'm fascinated. i love monetsorri and its methods...i am actually sending my son to a montesorri charter in jeffco (montesorri peaks academy) i'm interested to hear how its going to for you as i was considering very seriously for a while homeschooling my own kiddos.

I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
